Position Title:	Board of Governors member
Number of Positions:	21 Members (Part-Time)
Details:	In accordance with the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act 2009 (the Act), the College of Trades Appointments Council seeks candidates to be members of the Board of Governors. The Board shall comprise: Sixteen members representing the trades sectors (four for each of construction, motive power, industrial and service sectors). Two shall be selected to represent employee and two for employer perspectives. Four members representing the public. These members shall not be prospective members of the College or have an affiliation with a member of the College or with a compulsory or voluntary trade or an employer of individuals in a compulsory or voluntary trade that, in the opinion of the Appointments Council, may bias the candidates’ decisions. One member shall be selected representing the colleges of applied arts and technology.
Duties:	Provide leadership to ensure oversight of the College's planning and strategy. Work to fulfill the Board's stated roles, objectives and responsibilities effectively. Direct the activities and duties of the Divisional and Trade Boards. Attend regular and special meetings of the Board. Facilitate relations between the Board of Governors, various Boards of the College and the College staff and executive members. Consult with the College's Registrar/CEO and staff over public policy developments and Board responsibilities. Represent the College to external groups and other stakeholders, including industry associations, government, and membership of the College. Work collaboratively with College staff and other boards in the College's governing structure. Sit on other committees and boards related to the College, as required. NOTE: The Board of Governors shall select a Chairperson.
Qualifications:	Experience in stakeholder relationship management and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in the skilled trades system. Excellent communication and superior negotiation, consultation and team-building skills. Demonstrated accountability and integrity in personal and professional dealings/decision-making. Decision-making skills and the ability to exercise informed judgement regarding the College's business and its strategic and business plans. HR/I& IT/Finances/Facilities/Policy Development background is an asset. Previous experience as a member of a public or private sector Board of Directors.
Terms:	Members are appointed for a term not exceeding three years. While an individual may serve for more than one term, no one may serve more than six consecutive years. A reappointment under the terms previously noted may be made after one year's absence from the Board.
Remuneration:	Chair ($450 per day); Members ($250 per day)

Divisional Board

Position Details

Organization:	Ontario College of Trades
Position Title:	Divisional Board member
Number of Positions:	16 Members (Part-Time)
Details:	In accordance with the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act 2009 (the Act), the College of Trades Appointments Council seeks candidates to be members of the four Divisional Boards, one for each of the the construction, motive power, industrial and service sectors. Each five-member board shall comprise: Four members: Two shall be selected to represent employees and two for employer perspectives. One Chairperson, drawn from the Board of Governors for the same sector as the divisional board.
Duties:	Advise the Board of Governors on issues relating to trades within their respective sector including trends, emerging technologies, opportunities, challenges, and other issues. Perform such other duties as assigned by the Board. Disseminate information from the Board of Governors to the sector's Trade Boards. Consider recommendations from a trade board, make a decision and provide a written response. Advise the Board of Governors of any trade board recommendations, decisions and responses. Attend meetings on a regular basis and participate actively in committee discussions. Advocate for high standards in the delivery of apprenticeship programs. Promote apprenticeship as a method of acquiring skills for trades.
Qualifications:	Prospective employer or prospective journeyperson members in good standing of the College. Working knowledge of the Ontario College of Trades and responsibilities as prescribed under Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009. Expert knowledge and experience working in one of the 4 sectors, as well as reasonably broad knowledge of trades-specific or sector-specific issues across Ontario. Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of the skilled trades sector to recommend appropriate courses of action with consideration to the College's organizational direction and agenda. Ability to use large amounts of technical material in areas outside the individual's professional expertise. Ability to work constructively within a consensus-based decision-making forum. Ability to make objective and impartial decisions based on information and facts. In-depth understanding of the professional, institutional, policy and community context of the skilled trades sectors. Demonstrated analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills and the ability to formulate reasoned decisions and communicate them orally and in writing. Previous Board experience is an asset.

Position Title:	Trade Board member
Number of Positions:	Four to twelve members per trade board (part-time).
Details:	In accordance with the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (the Act), the College of Trades Appointments Council seeks candidates to be members of Trade Boards. Each Trade Board shall be composed of equal numbers of members selected as employee and employer representatives, all selected from the relevant trade or group of trades.
Duties:	Advise the sector's divisional board on issues relating to the trade or group of trades represented by the trade board. Make recommendations to the Divisional Board with respect to the trade(s) comprising the board. Make recommendations to the Divisional Board with respect to the trade(s) comprising the board. Oversee the development of apprenticeship training standards, curriculum standards, examinations and other related training and certification material, and recommend approval of the same to the divisional board. Consider advice and recommendations from employers, journeypersons and apprentices who work in the trade in relation to which it was established. Identify trends, emerging technologies, opportunities, challenges, and other issues. Attend meetings on a regular basis and participate actively in committee discussions. Advocate for high standards in the delivery of apprenticeship programs. Promote apprenticeship as a method of acquiring skills for trades.
Qualifications:	Prospective employer or prospective journeyperson member in good standing of the College. Demonstrated experience in standards and examination development. Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of the skilled trades sector to recommend appropriate courses of action with consideration to the College's organizational direction and agenda. Leadership skills in task management and achievement of goals. Committed to making objective and impartial recommendations. Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Experience on an industry association, advisory committee, or Board of Directors in the public domain is an asset.

Roster of Adjudicators

Position Details

Position Title:	Roster of Adjudicators
Number of Positions:	TBD (Part-Time)
Details:	In accordance with the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (the Act), the College of Trades Appointments Council seeks candidates to be members of the Roster of Adjudicators. Each appointee shall be capable of, and shall act, in a neutral and impartial manner. Appointees to the Roster of Adjudicators are eligible for selection to Review Panels. Each review panel shall be composed of three members chosen from the roster of adjudicators and appointed as follows: 1. One member shall be appointed by the Board of Governors. 2. Two members shall be appointed by the Divisional Board for the sector to which the trade that is the subject matter of the review under Part IX of the OCTAA belongs. NOTE: There is no assurance that a Roster appointee will be selected to a review panel.
Duties:	Conduct reviews and make determinations on journeyperson to apprentice ratios and on classification or reclassification of trades as compulsory or voluntary trades as provided in Part IX of the Act, and report on the review panel's decision to the Board of Governors. Advise the Board of Governors of the decisions of the review panel regarding ratios and compulsory/voluntary status of trades/occupations.
Qualifications:	Working knowledge of the Ontario College of Trades and responsibilities as prescribed under Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009. Demonstrated ability to make objective and impartial decisions based on information and facts. Analytical, conceptual, problem-solving skills and the ability to formulate reasoned decisions and communicate them orally and in writing. Demonstrated accountability and integrity in personal and professional dealings/decision-making. Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of the skilled trades to recommend appropriate courses of action. Ability to understand and consider large amounts of technical material in areas outside the individual’s professional expertise. Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Direct mediation and arbitration experience is an asset as well as background in, or experience with the construction, motive power, industrial or service sectors.
Assets & Terms:	Members are appointed for a term not exceeding three years. While an individual may serve for more than one term, no one may serve more than six consecutive years. A reappointment under the terms previously noted may be made after one year's absence from the Roster.
Remuneration:	$665 per day (Review Panel Chairs); $400 per day (Panel Members)
